Air Conditioning Servicing in Cairns
A scheduled mechanical and electrical check on a unit that is still working.
- Pressures read against the day's ambient
- Electrical connections and current tested
- Condensate drain checked and flushed
- Baseline figures written down for next time
What a service actually measures
A service is scheduled maintenance on a unit that is still doing its job. The point is to catch the things that are drifting before they stop, and to leave you holding numbers rather than a tick in a box.
The refrigeration side is the part most often done badly. Putting gauges on a system and reading a pressure tells you very little on its own, because pressure moves with the outdoor temperature. On a 33 degree Cairns afternoon a perfectly healthy system shows a head pressure that looks alarming written down. The figures that mean something are superheat and subcooling, compared against the manufacturer’s chart for that model at that ambient. Those two say whether the charge is right and whether the metering device is behaving.
Airflow gets measured at the same time, because a system with restricted airflow throws readings that mimic a refrigerant fault and gets misdiagnosed constantly.
The electrical side, which is where the risk sits
Running current is compared against the nameplate figure, because a compressor drawing more than it should is telling you something months ahead of the day it fails. Capacitors are measured against their rated capacitance rather than eyeballed, since one that has drifted low will still start a motor while quietly shortening its life.
Terminals matter more here than people expect. Connections heat and cool every day, and years of that cycling loosens screws. A loose terminal on a high current circuit produces heat, and heat inside a plastic terminal block is a genuine fire risk. Checking terminations, retorquing them and looking at contactor faces for pitting is unglamorous, and it is the part of a service that most justifies booking one.
Condensate before the wet season
Timing matters for the drain. Through the monsoon an indoor unit moves a surprising volume of water, and a drain that was marginal in August will overflow in February. We check the fall along the line, clear and flush it, confirm water actually runs through under load, and look at where it discharges. Outdoors, the condenser gets checked for what builds up on it locally, which inland means cane ash and dust and near the water means salt sitting on the fins.
Once a year suits most domestic units in this climate. Coastal units, and anything running nearly year round, are better on a shorter interval.
When a service is not what you need
Two honest limits. If a unit has already stopped cooling, has started making a new noise, or is dripping inside, booking a routine service is the wrong call. That is diagnostic work, it is a different job, and treating it as maintenance wastes your money and our time.
The other is cleaning. A service reports the condition of the filters and the coil face, but actually stripping biofilm off an evaporator and out of a barrel fan is separate work with its own method, its own equipment and its own hour count. If the complaint is a smell, air conditioning cleaning is what fixes it, not a service.

Where we work
- Babinda The wettest town in the country, where drainage and outdoor unit siting decide how long a system lasts.
- Bentley Park Small blocks and close-set houses, where the outdoor unit location decides the whole system design.
- Edge Hill Heritage Queenslanders with no wall cavity, where the pipe route is the hardest part of the job.
- Edmonton Southern corridor estates where most installs go into new slab-on-ground homes within months of handover.
- Innisfail Rebuild-era housing where the mounting standard is the whole conversation, and rainfall does the rest.
- Gordonvale Cane country, where the thing that quietly costs a system its capacity is what settles on the coil.
- Mission Beach Salt and cyclone exposure together, on properties that often sit empty between guests.
- Redlynch A valley suburb where humidity sits higher than the coast, so sizing for moisture removal matters more than raw output.
- Smithfield Heavy rental turnover near JCU, where reliability between tenants matters as much as the install itself.
- Trinity Beach Direct salt exposure off the water, where coil specification and condenser siting decide how long a system lasts.
- Tully Rainfall and humidity at the extreme end, on blocks where the supply run is often the real constraint.

Give us the rooms and the suburb. Capacity is nearly always workable without a visit.
- Hours
- Weekdays 7 until 5, Saturday mornings
- Area
- Cairns, the beaches, and south to the Cassowary Coast
- Quotes
- In writing, itemised, no obligation
- We ask what the rooms are doing before we quote a size, not after.
- The quote covers the mount, the line set, the electrical and the make good, so there are no line items appearing on install day.
