Air Conditioning Edmonton
Southern corridor estates where most installs go into new slab-on-ground homes within months of handover.
New houses, new decisions, one chance to get the plan right
Edmonton sits about fifteen kilometres south of the CBD and has grown faster than almost anywhere else in the region. Mount Peter, Bellvista and the pockets out toward Sugarworld are full of slab-on-ground brick and rendered-block homes that are five years old or less, and a large share of the work we quote here is in a house the owner has only just moved into.
That timing shapes everything. Builders in this corridor commonly hand over with one head in the main living area and provision for nothing else, or with the whole house left to the owner. Either way the decision about the finished system is being made by the homeowner, after handover, room by room, as budget allows.
Plan the whole house even if you only fit part of it
The constraint most people in Edmonton run into is electrical, not mechanical. Most of these estates are on single-phase supply, and a standard new-build switchboard has a modest number of free poles once the oven, hot water, solar and general circuits are accounted for. Two or three added systems over a few years will use those up.
The practical answer is to plan the full house at the first quote. We work out what the finished arrangement looks like, which circuits it needs, and whether the board has room. If it does not, you find out now, when a spare pole or a board change is a scheduled job, rather than on a Saturday in February when the fourth unit will not start.
Sizing here is straightforward compared with the older parts of Cairns. Ceiling heights are consistent, insulation is to current code, and the glazing is predictable. What catches people out is west-facing living areas. A lot of these estates are laid out on a grid that puts the main glass toward the afternoon sun, and a room that reads fine on paper can be two kilowatts short by four in the afternoon.
Cane, dust and where the outdoor unit goes
Edmonton is close enough to working cane that condensers pick up a genuine seasonal load of fine ash and dust, particularly through the crush. It will not destroy a unit, but a coil packed with that material loses capacity quietly, and most owners read it as the system getting old rather than the coil needing a wash.
Salt is not the issue here that it is on the northern beaches. You are far enough inland that standard coil specification is usually appropriate, and we will say so rather than sell you a marine-grade unit you do not need.
Getting a quote in Edmonton
We are happy to work from your floor plan, which most owners in these estates still have. Room dimensions, ceiling height, orientation and glazing get us most of the way to a proper number before anyone visits. Call 0489 266 523 or send through the plan and we will come back with the whole-house version and the staged version, so you can decide which one you are actually buying.
